dvd organization

I love having a great movie collection. I hate how much space they take up! Especially when you have limited space to store all those DVDs. I purchased Atlantic DVD sleeves to store our DVDs and to get rid of the plastic boxes DVDs come in.

I looked at many DVD storage options and decided on the Atlantic DVD sleeves for a couple of reasons:
1} You can store the cover art with the DVD
2} Each sleeve fits two disks and are perfect for 2-disc special edition movies
3} The size of the sleeve lets me still store the DVDs in our DVD tower (from IKEA)

I found the sleeves at Target. They only had three packs in stock. Unfortunately, I did not have enough to put one movie in each sleeve so I had to double up on some movies. I grouped similar movies together.

I put the movies in alphabetical order. I used a system to file sleeves that have two movies in them. For example: I filed Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles under Sixteen Candles. In place of where Pretty in Pink would be filed is a piece of paper indicating where Pretty in Pink can be found {with Sixteen Candles}. {sorry if it is a little confusing :-/}

I made some file like boxes out of cardboard to store the DVDs so they would fit in the storage tower. Of course, I jazzed them up with some paint and fabric.

There are over 100 movies there! I love the way this turned out! Getting rid the plastic DVD boxes saves so much space! These sleeves are a great way to downsize your media storage space. There are many other options out there like DVD binders and DVD files, so find what works for you!

  1. Hi Stacy,
    My family and I collect tons of DVD as well, but mostly from the kids collection and it's taking way too much space. I would love to know where you got the sleeves from? I see our library has the same thing going and I never really asked them about it either. LOL! Would love to get rid of our DVD mess as well. Thanks,
    Claire

  2. Hi Stacy, I saw your post from I HEART organizing quite awhile ago and was beyond inspired by this idea. However, when it came down to actual execution the sleeves were more expensive than I really wanted and I truly didn't want multiple unrelated movies in a single sleeve, I'm anal like that. So, i went in search of a similar alternative. I have to share!! I found a set of 8 x 5(ish) sheet protector pages. They are exactly like a standard sheet protector you would put in a binder at work or something, but they are half sized. You can get a packet of 25 at my local, midwest office max for $4.19! I got enough sleeves for my existing collection and room for growth for $32! I was BEYOND EXCITED!!!

    In addition, I still had a number of box sets of TV shows that I wanted condensed, this is where the Atlantic sleeves re-inspired me! For example I have all 7 seasons of Gilmore Girls in the old school box set that is probably 2 inches wide or more. I just got my sleeves today and I can't wait to move my box sets over and into the bin I bought just for them!!

    I have just been so excited by this that I had to share!

  3. Stacy,

    Just read about your collection. We need to get together about our storage problem. You collect movies..and for the ones that have only one disc you should buy the Memorex individual plastic pockets. It fully protects your DVD...then put that inside the large Atlantic cover with the artwork. Now, you are thinking..."I don't have enough of the artwork covers." That is where I can help you. I will trade you one of your insert pages for one of the cover pages. As many of you need. You see, our family collects the TV series only, and we need 3or 3 insert pages for every artwork page! So we have lots of the artwork pages stacked up, and we are seeking the inner DVD pages. Want to make a trade? Write to me.
