sunglasses case

So I broke two pairs of sunglasses in one week. But they were from the dollar store so I can't be too mad since I only spent $2 on them. They did last me a long time, however, about a year! This time I splurged and bought sunglasses at Target. I know, a whole $16 on a pair of sunglasses! This time I am going to take care of them. Usually my glasses end up at the bottom of my 7 lbs purse. Yep. Seven. Know wonder they broke and got scratched. Well, not this time! And thanks to my cheapo sunglasses, here is a tutorial!

{What you need}

16.5 x 5 inch piece of vinyl fabric

scraps of vinyl to jazz up your case

two 4 inch long pieces of tape measure {one can get one at the dollar store and then disassemble it}

sewing supplies/tools

{What you do}

This is so easy and quick because of the vinyl fabric. It doesn't fray and doesn't have to be lined or fused with interfacing. However, one can make a case with other fabric if desired.

With your 16.5 x 5 inch vinyl, fold over each end one inch and sew. I used two lines of stitching.

Make sure your measuring tape will fit in these slots.....

Round the ends of the measuring tape and put some tape on the ends to prevent them from cutting anything.

If you would like, you can jazz up the case with scraps of vinyl. Stripes, dots, flowers, whatever. I sewed on a little brown stripe.

Then fold over the vinyl so the right sides are together.

Sew one side with a 1/2 inch seam.

Insert the measuring tape into the two slots with the number side facing out.

Sew the other side with a 1/2 seam. Trim down seams with a pinking shears or scissors.

Flip.

Add shades.

The case actually matches my new sunglasses. This was a total coincidence. Looks like I buy a lot of turquoise and brown. :-/

Sunglasses protected. Case closed. :)

  2. This is such an awesome blog! I'm glad I found it via a screen printing with freezer paper tut you did. I also totally adore the gnome houses-that is something I'm going to have to make with my daughter when she is a wee bit older! Have a beautiful weekend!
