freezer paper 'screen printing'

Using this freezer paper ‘screen printing’ technique you can personalize some of your projects! So gather your supplies….
{What you need}
Freezer paper
Fabric paint … or acrylic paint and textile medium
Fabric
Sponge brush
Utility knife
Iron

{What you do}
Choose a design {the simpler the better} or words.
On the freezer paper I drew my word free hand…. Use a computer image for your template if you like!

Using a utility knife cut out your design. Don’t forget about any inside details {like the middle of an O}.

Iron the freezer paper onto the fabric.

Using the fabric paint {or mix your own with textile medium… follow directions on bottle} and sponge brush, dab or gently brush inside your design.
This may take a few coats.

Let dry and lift up the freezer paper. Press with an iron.

All done!
The possibilities are endless!

deck o' cards holder

Anybody hate cardboard boxes that board games, puzzles and cards come in? I DO! They get so worn out and then you have a beat up box that hardly holds the game pieces/cards. Drives me a little crazy. Sure, you could just use a rubber band and wrap it around a deck of cards…… but, that’s just not me :-D.

My solution… a fabric card holder!

Once I figured out the right dimensions these little guys came together quickly! Want to make one? Here’s how…
{What you need}
Outer fabric – 2 pieces – 4 ¼ x 5 in
Liner fabric - 2 pieces – 4 ¼ x 5 in
Interfacing
Small hair tie
Button

{What you do}
Cut your fabric and iron on interfacing.

You will sew the outer fabric together and the liner fabric together the same way. With right sides together use a ¼ in seam allowance and sew around 3 sides … 5in side, 4 ¼ in side, 5in side.

Sew corners:
Open seams, match inside seams at corner, pin. {see picture}

Measure about 7/16 – ½ in from corner and draw a line {see picture}.

Sew along line.

Repeat on the remaining 3 corners.
Open and press seams.

Turn outer fabric right side out. Keep inner fabric wrong side out.
Fold down top {raw edge side} about ½ in. You may need to adjust depending on how far you want your cards to stick out.
Press.

I folded over the raw edge and then inserted the deck of cards. I didn't want the cards to stick out so I refolded the fabric {seen in next picture}.

Insert lining into outer fabric.

Fold hair tie in half and place in the middle of one side. Pin on both sides to keep in place. I did not pin the whole thing.

Start sewing a top stitch starting at the hair tie. Sew with the lining side up. I found it is easier that way to manipulate the fabric to get a nice straight stitch. Sew all the way around, past the hair tie. Finish off.

Add a button.
Done!

Now you have a pretty and practical way to hold your cards. No more beat up boxes!
Make some for all your decks of cards. Great for kid card games! Old Maid, Go Fish, Crazy 8s, matching games, even Pokemon, Magic, Ninjago {or whatever the kids are into these days}, even flash cards!
Start sewing!

Picasa

Hello friends! I recently downloaded Picasa, a photo editing program.

I would love to have the Adobe Creative Suite but don't want dish out a lot of money… at least not yet :) Picasa works great for what I need right now, just brightening photos and having fun with color effects. Here are some of my favorite ways to edit a photo….
Here is the original photo…

1960’s…

Cinemascope…

Duo-tone…

If you are looking for an image editing program that you can use for free, Picasa would be a great option. Have fun!

new fabric and clipboards

Check out all the new fabric I got from a local quilt shop, Olive Juice Quilts! They had a sale going and had a buy 20 get 20 free on fat quarters. I couldn’t pass that up! What am I going to use them for? Well, I don’t have plans for all of them yet… some for pillows, zippered pouches, and purses.

I’m excited for some pillows I’m going to make for the bedroom with this fabric…

And some new materials for an upcoming project… I love the color combo!

..........
I’ve been working {slowly} on my craft room/studio. One small project I did today was to redo a bulletin board and some fabric covered clipboards. The bulletin board was all black and I painted the frame white and covered it in turquoise fabric. The clipboards were some cheap ones I found at Wal-Mart. I styled them up by using mod podge and fabric. I only covered the front of the clipboard. Now I can organize my projects and have them posted where I can see them!
